You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women. - Jawaharlal Nehru
India is a country with a rich and diverse culture. Indian culture tells us to multiply and distribute joy and happiness and share sadness and pain. It tells us that by all this we can develop co-operation and better living amongst ourselves and subsequently make this world a better place to live in.Even though India is a country of various religions and caste, our culture tells us just one thing 'phir bhi dil hai hidustani '.
In such a culture rich country like India, women always enjoyed a respectable position. To add to it India was one of the first countries in the world to give women the right to vote. The Indian Constitution being one of the most progressive in the world, guarantees equal rights for men and women. All this is cited so as to bring forth the the status of a Indian women in the society.Alongside this ,however, there is the reality which paint another picture.
Overlooking the CAW(Crimes Against Women),we can see that over the years it is steadily on the rise in India.CAW traditionally includes rape, kidnapping and abduction, dowry death, torture, molestation, sexual harassment, importation of girls, cases under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Sati Prevention Act, Dowry Prohibition Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act.It is quite shocking to learn that the same country boasted of having a respectable culture ,has turned out to be a hub of criminal activities against women!!!!!!!!!!!..However,till date ,we got many incidents happening around us that remind us of the social responsibility of safeguarding women. As in case of Mumbai molestation ,only a few would hit the news, which mostly end up in unproductive results. How about the rest, those stories that don't see the limelight?.So it is high time that we react to it at the drop of a hat,for what culture have we got in a country where the women are treated as something less than a human being.
