Very recently, I read an article on Illusion Of Knowledge. It is simplified as the tendency to think that you have a better understanding than you actually do about any topic, issue, concept, problem etc. To be precise, according to the author Daniel J. Boorstin, greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance;it is the illusion of knowledge.
But how far does this illusion of knowledge affect our daily lives? Let's find out (considering the fact that my findings may explore only half the truth ).Illusion, as we know, refers to a specific form of sensory distortion. Our own distorted perceptions or opinions can be instrumental in creating illusions. Knowledge on the other hand is very essential on the road map to success as it is the awareness or understanding about something.Hence put together,Illusion of knowledge lead to wrong decisions and ultimately to worst consequences be it in relationships, business or simply in everything one approaches.
Most of us have encountered the idea of destiny or fate in our lives while facing unresolved and unpleasant conditions or circumstances. It is imperative to note that some of us (which includes me) do not believe in or rather cannot vote for the idea of destiny guiding any of our lives. For I have always observed life as the consequences of our choices made by the individual himself/others in the course of life itself.Revolving around this theory combined with the idea of illusion of Knowledge, I believe your fate depends on your ability to tell which is which.
Overseeing this I feel ,one need to check on the influence of illusion of knowledge in taking up decisions, providing opinions, stating reasons etc.As perceived, they mask gaps in our understanding of things and often lead to fooling ourselves without even realizing it.To put in a nutshell, no one is immune to illusion of knowledge. However, the best we can do is to have a check on our own understanding of the circumstances within and around us.The bottom line is:maintain vigilance in learning, don't -be overconfident, when in doubt put things to test, most of all as you shouldn't assume that you know it all, don't assume that others do either.
Quoting the prominent physicist, Stephen Hawking,
"the greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge"
